The problem
Southeast Asia’s pharmacy sector is highly fragmented, with most pharmacies independently owned and lacking access to affordable medicines, financing, and continuous professional training. This results in limited availability, high costs, and uneven quality of pharmaceutical care, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
The solution
SwipeRx operates a digital platform that addresses the many needs of pharmacies including provision of the largest government-certified digital training and upskilling platform for pharmacy professionals and the largest Group Purchasing Organization which provides negotiated pricing, financing and logistics solutions for small independent pharmacies. Leveraging its scale and expertise, SwipeRx now plans to launch a chain of women-led retail pharmacies, to expand access
The insight
SwipeRx has become the backbone of Southeast Asia’s fragmented pharmacy sector — with one in three pharmacists now on its platform. By piloting a women-led retail chain that could scale to 1,000 pharmacies by 2030, it is moving from digital aggregation to physical access, unlocking medicines for millions while creating new livelihoods for women. Its model demonstrates how health innovation succeeds when it strengthens the invisible frontline, builds shared infrastructure for scale, and embeds trusted community actors into national health strategies.
