The problem
Sexual and gender-based violence remains pervasive in cities worldwide, yet it is vastly underreported due to stigma, fear, and mistrust of authorities. Without data, governments and communities lack the evidence needed to design safer public spaces and policies.
The solution
Safecity is a crowd-mapping platform that allows women and girls to anonymously report incidents of sexual harassment and violence. These reports generate hotspot maps and trend data, which are shared with communities, urban planners, and law enforcement to drive systemic change. Alongside the tech platform, Red Dot Foundation runs workshops, awareness campaigns, and advocacy initiatives to promote safer cities.
The insight
By transforming silence into data, Safecity has created a powerful feedback loop between survivors, communities, and policymakers. What began as a grassroots tool to document harassment has evolved into a global movement, embedding women’s safety into city planning, community design, and policy frameworks across regions
