The problem

In India, over half of all children experience sexual abuse. Yet cultural taboos, stigma, and the absence of school-based education prevent open discussion and early intervention. Survivors often face long-term trauma without access to mental health support, while schools lack structured curricula and trained staff to identify and respond effectively.

The solution

Arpan delivers age-appropriate personal safety education for children aged 4–18, trains teachers and parents to build protective environments, and provides trauma-informed mental health services for survivors. Its multi-channel model includes direct delivery in schools, a scalable train-the-trainer programme, interactive digital modules, and government partnerships to embed personal safety into national curricula.

The insight

Over 17 years, Arpan has grown into a nationally recognised organisation with deep partnerships across India’s education system. By prioritising cost-effective digital tools and a train-the-trainer model, it is embedding systemic change: ensuring that personal safety education becomes a standard part of every classroom in India over the next decade.
